I forget that I can remember when I was young climbing up fences
WHO: Kurloz Makara, Sam, Meulin, and anyone else if they wish.
WHAT: Daemons!
WHEN: Now/wibbly-wobbly time.
WHERE: Daemon island.
NOTES/WARNINGS: Cursing, standard murder-y creepy horror-carnival things.
He doesn't invite his friends this time. He's learned his lesson there. No, these ill-advised explorations he partakes in alone. He's not too concerned for safety. He can and has always been able to take care of himself. Besides, he's met an angel already. Sam. And if even the most fearsome of demons does no harm, then how bad could it be? He might, rather, learn more of his friend and gain allies with similar abilities. Beings who could, perhaps, halt a reckoning.
He follows the map exactly and yet it seems he has still ended up lost. He had hoped for friendly beings but this doesn't look anything like a demon's hive-stay at all. It looks more like some place Horuss would lose his mother fuckin mind over, what with the... the... what was it called. Something about steam. Nevertheless, he is getting the sneaking suspicion that this is not and island of demons at all. It's steam. And itching. And a whole motherfuckin lot of beasts in one place, reminding him of lusii in a market, each trailing after its charge.
Shame says he ought to turn right around. Pride says he ought to put his chin up and waltz on through, totally alone. Logic reminds that it doesn't matter.
And the little bleatbeast without a scaled tail as should be, says, "Hello, my friend."
~~~
His resolve is weak. Of course he had to invite them after that. This was something his friends had to see. They have to experience this too, as he has.
He wanders round and round the village, chasing after the little goat who bounces and skips and stumbles with glee. She transforms before his eyes, a purrbeast to dart out of way, a bee to hover above, a seal to dive into the pool of water in which a cluster of apples float. A shopkeeper shouts and Amalthea barks and is off again, this time as a bird of vibrant color, Kurloz with her. The most difficult thing is wrangling her down, but he cannot help but laugh all the while.
Should wait in travel be some time, he has no qualms curling up near the docks, listening to the water whilst Amalthea nests in his lap, a goat again. For any passing thought that they might not show after his last fiasco, Amalthea curls in closer. He reminds her she could become again that slippery barking creature and swim where he does not, but she chooses to stay. Like they're very old friends.
Yes, he thinks his friends shall enjoy this place very much.
He laughs too as the goat is shoved. Of course she returns in kind, bleating.
"Suppose we could administer righteous inquiry to they. What more knowledge to scry of a being than by means of the being itself?" Or maybe one of the people around, people who all have one. They would surely know. He confesses, "I know not."
Dragging her eyes away from the fierce cat that seems so much like her lusus and yet not at all, she props her chin on his shoulder and laughs all soft. It's a wonderful thing to be brought to, to see the creature that even now shifts to something sleek and smaller, a furbeast all long and patterned in long white and black stripes that climbs the goat and chitters right in her ear. It's a wonderful thing and it's not at all surprising that Kurloz didn't bother asking questions before he called her.
"We should ask the people, purrobably. They've had these creatures longer, I should assume. Purrobably. Unless we've arrived on the eve of a creature beast getting."
He laughs at her suggestion. It's not impossible here, but he doubts it, just as he's sure she does.
He kisses her head before easing out, pulling her along by the hand and grinning at her. He glances away only to call out into the crowd. "Hear ye, all! My beautiful and beloved matesprit is struck of inquiry! With whom may we learn more of the fantastical beasts alongside? Who shall be the one to please this most pleasant being, Meulin Leijon?"
