For Loki

It's not hard for Holtzmann to find Carmichael's once she gets her apps going, and when she does, her face splits into another huge grin. She's relieved to know that she can already travel between here and New York whenever she wants, but this is pretty great, too: a slice of New York right in the middle of her new favorite city.

Keeping one eye on the knishes, she looks around for Loki.

She's not hard to spot - the gleaming golden horns kind of stand out. Loki, for her part, has been keeping an eye out herself, and waves one pale hand when she spots a shock of blonde hair, and yellow glasses.

Huh. Cool. She'd seen the horns on the network, of course, but it had been harder to gauge the scope of them on video. This place being what it is, she's not sure if the woman is some kind of Viking time-traveler (or Viking ghost, how cool would that be?) or just a very intense cosplayer, but either way, she appreciates the eccentricity. Stay weird, Seven-Fold City.

She lopes over and throws herself down in the seat across from Loki, grinning crookedly. "So this is why they say all the good delis in Manhattan are closing."

She isn't entirely wrong. Loki is a Viking goddess, and she is an occasional time-traveller.

"What can I say? Apparently this place is much better money," Loki says, returning that crooked grin with one of her own.

"Is it?" she asks, glancing around with the vague but disaffected interest of someone whose only real association to money is never having very much of it. The disconnect of the permanent graduate student.

"I'd think about moving our op here," she notes, "but my initial findings indicate that we probably wouldn't be very welcome."

"Yeah? What op would that be?" Loki asks.

"Busting ghosts." She grins shamelessly.

"Wait, you're a Ghostbuster?"

Look, it's not that Loki is a giant nerd it's just. Loki is a giant nerd. (If not so completely blatant about it as her previous incarnation.)

Holtzmann's grin only widens, delighted by the recognition. She definitely did not get into paraphysics for the fame or accolades, or she would have quit at literally any point prior to six weeks ago, but she can't say she's minded the sharp increase in cheers and high-fives.

"I am a Ghostbuster," she echoes, as serious as she can be with that wolfish smile.

Loki's own grin widens.

"Gotta say, that's pretty--" she searches for the correct word for a moment, and finishes, "Cool."

"It is," Holtz agrees sincerely -- both because yes, she absolutely thinks they are that cool, and because her own life has become massively cooler since the team started up.

"But," she admits, "I get the impression that not everybody here would think so."

[story_and_teller]

"Probably not everybody," Loki agrees. "But even in a place like this, ghosts, spirits, spooks and the like end up where they are neither needed nor wanted; I suspect demand for your services may well exceed what you anticipate."

"Really," she says curiously, steepling her fingers together. "Do tell."

[story_and_teller]

"Well," Loki says, leaning back, and raising one hand, fingers spread wide. "Imagine if some eldritch horror found its way from Nightmares to Romance, and started driving moon-eyed lovebirds into raving madness. Not really copacetic, is it?"

Holtz grins. "That sounds like it could get awesome, actually."

[story_and_teller]

"Well yeah," Loki says, mouth spreading in a broad grin again. "But a lady in your line of work could make a pretty penny fixing it up."

"The two are not necessarily mutually exclusive," Holtz notes, with the slightly sadistic smirk of someone who has possibly called more than one near-death experience awesome.

[story_and_teller]

"That they are not," Loki agrees. She slurps up the last of her milkshake noisily, and lets out a pleased sigh.

"So, you wanna snack, or you wanna get one up there?" She jerks a thumb back and up, toward the Satellite.

"No bringing snacks up with us?" she clarifies, because she kind of still does want one of those knishes, but... space.

"Movie theater rules? Or actual movie theater rules?" I.e., sneaking things in.

[story_and_teller]

"Oh, you can bring anything you want," Loki says. "More, d'you wanna spoil your appetite before you get there?"

[new_toys]

Pause. "...They sell snacks in space?"

[story_and_teller]

"Snacks, drinks, clothes, gadgets..."

[new_toys]

Pause. "They built a mall," she decodes in a flat, uncertain voice. Is that awesome or not? She's honestly not sure.

[story_and_teller]

"I think there are also apartments? And a great deal of research stations, and laboratories and such," Loki says, shrugging a little. "I think it's human nature."

Big difference, Loki: "Yeah, but that stuff is awesome."

[story_and_teller]

"I dunno, I thought scientists needed food as much as any mortal," Loki says. "And if people live there, maybe they don't wanna leave for groceries."

Beat.

"Oh yeah, there're also aliens."
